And then what happened?

'But I don't want to go among mad people,' said Alice. 'Oh, you can't help that,' said the cat. 'We're all mad here.'

One benefit of not ever sleeping more than 3 or 4 hours at a stretch is that you get to see things like sunrise over Nobby’s Head.

I went to the beach this morning for the second time since I got back (oh yes, by the way, back in Australia since Tuesday morning) and it was lovely - not only because the water was so warm and calm, but also because I saw the first person I know who isn’t a family member. Katie and I used to go to swimming club together, and now she’s working with Uncle as a lifeguard, and she seemed genuinely happy to see me again even though we don’t know each other that well. I think it was also just nice to see someone my own age, too.

I really needed that today. I’ve been pretty ill since I got to Newcastle and I’m phenomenally homesick for Göttingen, and the various stresses of life here are starting to get under my skin. I’m hoping that once I get to Sydney and start seeing everyone again all these things will lessen somewhat.
